In 2009 the exterior restoration of the Fog Alarm/Radio Room building, was completed by Fisheries & Oceans Canada. The interior contains interpretive displays depicting the history of lighthouse keeping. In 2012 the exterior restoration of the "Block House" was completed with funds from the District of West Vancouver, WVHS and an anonymous donor. This building once housed engines to power the searchlights during WWII. On June 13th, 2015 the lead-base paint was sand-blasted from the building's interior in readiness for its new life as a military museum. Funding for this work was shared equally by the District of of West Vancouver and WVHS who received a $1,000 special grant from the West Vancouver Community Foundation. http://www.westvanfoundation.com PALS is now working to equip the interior of the Block House with interpretive displays depicting the role of the military at Pt. Atkinson during WWII. Our Society greatly appreciates the support of the West Vancouver Community Foundation, who have provided a grant for the commencement of this project. |
